Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has broken her silence while being at the center of a federal immigration fraud investigation.
The Democrat from Minnesota posted a video to thank her supporters for their donations and to ask for more, citing the 'challenging time' she is facing.
'Hi everyone, Ilhan here,' she began in the video taken as she was traveling inside a vehicle. 'I just wanted to say thank you so much for the support, for everyone who sent $5, $10, $20 - that goes a long way as we fight Trump and his administration for trying to intimidate me and so many people right before the midterm elections.
The congresswoman is facing federal investigation into alleged immigration fraud, following a search of her Washington, D.C., home by federal agents as authorities examine decades-old immigration and naturalisation records.
The investigation reportedly centres on whether Omar or her late father provided false information on immigration documents when her family arrived in the United States as refugees from Somalia in 1995, or during the process that led to her becoming a U.S. citizen in 2000.
According to Reuters, the search warrant listed potential offences including conspiracy, immigration fraud, and making false statements on immigration paperwork. The investigation is being conducted by federal authorities, including Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Associated Press also reported that investigators seized Omar’s phone and issued grand jury subpoenas to some of her relatives as part of the inquiry.
Omar, a Democratic congresswoman representing Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District, has strongly denied wrongdoing and accused the administration of using federal law enforcement to target political opponents.

A 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, Javits Frimpong, has lost his life after being shot while on his way to school in the Bronx, New York.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, near Crotona Park, where the teenager was shot in the stomach.
According to police, Javits managed to run about a block before collapsing. He was rushed to a hospital, where he later passed away.
Investigators are searching for three teenage boys who reportedly fled the scene wearing black clothing and blue surgical masks. No arrests have been announced.
The victim's father, Thomas Frimpong, believes the incident may be connected to bullying his son had experienced at school.
Speaking to ABC7 New York, the grieving father revealed that the school's principal had informed him just three days earlier that two students had been suspended for bullying Javits.
“The principal told me Javits is innocent. Javits is innocent. He was defending himself,” he said.
Thomas explained that he brought his son from Ghana to live with him in New York about a year ago, while the boy's mother remained in Ghana.
He described Javits as a quiet and intelligent child who rarely spent time outside their home.
“My son was precious, very clever,” he said.
The father, who works as a taxi driver, recalled that his final words to his son that morning were a reminder to get to school on time.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents of the Crotona Park neighbourhood, with community members calling for stronger measures to address youth violence.
Police are continuing their investigation, although they have not established whether the shooting was connected to the reported bullying.

Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has criticised some Igbo social media users for allegedly dismissing concerns about counterfeit products as tribalism and Igbophobia.
In a video shared online, Famakin claimed that Kano is Nigeria's second-largest hub for counterfeit products, while alleging that Igbo traders dominate the trade.
“Are you guys not tired of using tribalism and Igbophobia? All of us are dying. All of us are dying from this fake,” he said.
He argued that fake drinks, alcohol and other consumables pose health risks to Nigerians regardless of their ethnicity, including Igbo people.
Famakin maintained that his criticism was directed at those producing counterfeit goods, not the entire Igbo community, whom he described as some of the nicest people he has encountered offline.
He also defended NAFDAC's efforts to combat counterfeit products, saying the agency was working but could do better.
He urged Nigerians to focus on tackling the problem rather than turning the discussion into an ethnic argument.
Police officers reportedly escorted a Black three-year-old soccer player and his family off a field in Winter Park, Florida, after parents of opposing players complained that their children could not get the ball away from him.
The toddler, identified as Nevada, was playing in an i9 Sports youth soccer league against children aged five when the incident occurred.
According to his family, the league removed him from the programme because he repeatedly dominated games, prompting complaints from parents who felt the matches were unfair.
The family shared the incident on TikTok through their account, Nevadaney10, claiming the league issued them a trespass notice before police escorted them away from the field in front of other children.
“They really called the police on a 3-year-old because he had the ball too much,” Nevada’s father said in the video.
Some opposing parents reportedly accused the toddler of trying to “put on a show”, while his mother defended him, saying he was simply playing soccer.
“Those grown-ups huddled up talking about my son… but he ain’t doing nothing but playing soccer,” she said.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has ordered the detention of four police officers attached to the Imota Tactical Team over the alleged harassment of a young man in Odogunyan, Ikorodu.
The commissioner also ordered the disbandment of the tactical team pending further investigations and disciplinary proceedings against the officers.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this during the parade of three of the four officers at the command headquarters in Ikeja. The development was announced in a video shared on the command’s official X account on Friday.
According to Fatai, the police launched an investigation after a video showing individuals allegedly harassing a young man in Odogunyan went viral on social media.
He said the investigation identified the individuals as officers attached to the Imota Tactical Team in Ikorodu, adding that they were summoned to the commissioner’s office and ordered to be detained.
“All four officers are in custody, while disciplinary proceedings and further enquiries are expected to follow,” the commissioner said.
Fatai assured members of the public that appropriate action would be taken against any officer found culpable, stressing that the command would not tolerate impunity.
He also commended members of the community for helping the police identify the officers, noting that their cooperation facilitated the investigation and the officers’ subsequent arrest.
Meanwhile, Adebisi said the command would continue to take disciplinary action against officers found acting contrary to the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
She urged residents to report any misconduct by police personnel to the command.
In its statement accompanying the video on X, the Lagos State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens’ rights and holding officers accountable for misconduct.
The command stated that wearing a police uniform did not give any officer the right to intimidate, harass or violate the rights of citizens.
Former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna has called out hookup girls in Nigeria, accusing them of putting little effort into their appearance compared to their counterparts in other countries.
Speaking in a video, Phyna said she noticed the difference during a recent visit to Kenya, where she observed that women working on the streets paid more attention to their outfits, makeup and overall appearance.
“I want to beg our hookup girls. I'm on my knees. You girls are not even taking this your job serious,” she said.
According to her, some hookup girls around Orchid Road and Farm City in Lagos barely make an effort to dress up before going out to look for customers.
“You just wear clothes as if you are going to buy a recharge card. They are wearing slippers. They're wearing just one kind gown like that. No makeup, no lip gloss,” she complained.
Phyna questioned why some of the women get upset when men offer them low amounts despite what she described as their lack of preparation.
She advised them to put more effort into their appearance by wearing heels, applying makeup and dressing more attractively.
“At least, try and do lip combo. People just wear the wig, wear your clothes like that, wear bedroom slippers and stand on the road,” she added.
She maintained that the women she observed in Kenya appeared more intentional about their appearance and urged their Nigerian counterparts to do better.
