Speaking at Colombia University, ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High level-week. Sophia said being a pastor’s daughter who had a child outside marriage was particularly difficult because of the stigma attached to it in Nigeria.

She said, “I am a pastor’s daughter who got pregnant out of wedlock by a global superstar. And I was mocked. It was crazy. And I had to find my strength in the midst of all of that. And for the longest time, I didn't have a voice. I was famous, I was popular, but I didn't have a voice.”

Sophia said the negativity surrounding the story often drowned out her own voice, adding that she wanted her experience to be better understood.

She also recalled being asked by an aunt to remain silent about the issue because it was considered a topic Black women were not expected to discuss publicly.

According to her, sharing her story through different international platforms helped her realise that she was not alone, as several women reached out to share similar experiences.

A member of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Shittu, has called on Muslims to support Muslim candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and reject political parties that field Christian candidates for governor in the 2027 election.

Shittu, who represents Saki West State Constituency and is an APC member, made the comments in a video circulating on social media.

“Support all our Muslim candidates in APC. Any political party with a Christian guber candidate must not be voted for. If such a person is voted in, Islam would suffer,” Shittu said.

In another part of the video, the lawmaker reportedly said Muslims should not vote for any party that presents a Christian governorship candidate, adding that, in his view, Christians in government “punish us because we are Muslims.”

The comments come as political discussions intensify ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election and amid calls from some Muslim groups for a Muslim to succeed Governor Seyi Makinde, a Christian who is serving his second term.

Makinde has previously said that religion should not determine his successor, stressing that competence and loyalty to Oyo State should guide the choice. He has also spoken about the longstanding coexistence of Muslims and Christians in the state.

Social media personality and businesswoman, Ifedayo Agoro, has reacted to the controversy surrounding comedian Real Warri Pikin, questioning why social media users often turn their attention to a successful woman’s husband whenever they disagree with her actions.

In a video shared online, Agoro criticised those who describe husbands as “weak” or “simps” for supporting their wives and said some people even go as far as sending private messages to the husbands of women they disagree with.

She questioned why people expect a woman to “suffer” for actions they do not approve of, asking whether they want her husband to leave her, publicly embarrass her or force her to stop posting online.

Agoro also argued that people have no way of knowing whether a couple is happy or experiencing problems in their marriage, saying outsiders should not make assumptions about relationships they are not part of.

She further suggested that some people struggle with the idea of being married to successful or powerful women because they associate masculinity with being able to control their partners.

Agoro concluded by telling social media users that their opinions do not determine the success of another couple’s marriage.

Popular Nigerian Christian TikTok creator Audrey Cyril, who has more than 600,000 followers, is continuing with her wedding plans amid a growing social media controversy involving her fiancé, Mr Presh.

The controversy began after several women publicly alleged that Mr Presh was romantically involved with them while he was in a relationship with Cyril.

Cyril has previously spoken about her relationship while largely keeping her partner private. She has also shared content about her decision to remain a virgin until marriage.

In a proposal video shared online, Mr Presh reportedly said he reached out to Cyril after the pair had been out of contact for about 10 years. According to his account, she responded almost immediately. He proposed to her in July, after which wedding preparations reportedly began.

The situation drew attention after a woman identified as Oma shared her own account of her alleged relationship with Mr Presh.

According to Oma, she had been communicating with and seeing him for some time. She alleged that the pair went on staycations together and remained in contact until January, when she discovered that he had allegedly been in a relationship with Cyril for about two years and had proposed to her.

Oma further claimed that she regularly prepared food for Mr Presh when he visited and believed they were in a relationship, saying she was unaware of his alleged involvement with another woman.

Following her claims, other women began sharing similar allegations online.

Content creator and relationship expert GehGeh has criticised Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy over his reported purchase of a Bugatti said to be worth about ₦9 billion.

In a video shared online, GehGeh described the car as a “financial mistake” and gave Burna Boy 24 hours to remove it from his compound.

Nigerian comedian Real Warri Pikin has responded to the backlash she received following her recent moment on singer Timaya’s stage, insisting that she has no regrets about what she did.

In a video shared online, the comedian said she would repeat her actions and defended them as part of her work as an entertainer.

“I did what I did with my full chest and I will do it over and over again. I’m not sorry. I will never be sorry. I’m an entertainer. The stage is my shrine,” she said.

Content creator and relationship expert Geh Geh has criticised comedian Real Warri Pikin over her recent video addressing the backlash surrounding her interaction with singer Timaya on stage.

In a video shared online, Geh Geh gave Real Warri Pikin 24 hours to delete the video and apologise to Nigerians, describing her actions as a direct attack on her husband’s ego.

He said if her husband would not speak about the situation, he would “speak for him.”

Geh Geh also compared the situation to singer Timaya’s marriage, claiming that Timaya would not allow another man to have such an interaction with his wife.

He added that situations like this are among the reasons he is afraid of getting married.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, today September 21, uncovered an alleged “illegal” juice production facility in Badagry, arresting two women in connection with the illegal facility.

While speaking to newsmen after uncovering the illegal facility, the Civil Defence Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, SC Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the names of the two suspects were being withheld while investigations continue. He said the factory allegedly supplied the illegal packs of juice, to markets across Lagos, with already-packaged products found at the facility, some reportedly loaded into container vehicles for distribution.

Abolurin also alleged that juveniles between the ages of 15 and 16 were involved in activities at the facility. Items reportedly recovered included sugar, water, adhesives, dyes and colourants, which the Corps said were used in the production process.

When interrogated, one of the suspects claimed the factory was established by her grandmother and had operated for nearly 20 years before shutting down due to challenges. She said the business was working towards renewing its registration with NAFDAC and only produced about three or four times a year based on customer orders.

The NSCDC said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will soon be charged to court.
