‎The classroom is completely empty now.

‎Just sunlight. Just dust floating lazy in the air. Just Amaka's bag sitting on the chair like it's waiting for something bad to happen.

‎Then — footsteps.

‎Heavy, tired footsteps, and the slap of a wet mop against the corridor floor.

‎Mama Ngozi appears in the doorway with her bucket, sweat already thick on her forehead even though it's only break time. She stops. Takes in the empty room. Sighs the deep sigh of a woman who has cleaned up after children for twenty years.

‎"These children sef…"

‎Her eyes do a slow lap around the room. Desks. Floor. Windows.

‎Then — the bag.

‎She stares at it. Just one second too long.

"Hm."

‎She starts sweeping. Methodical. Unbothered. Then something else catches her eye — a โ‚ฆ500 note poking out from under a student's notebook, sitting right there on the edge of a desk.

‎She stops. Bends slightly. Her hand moves toward it—

‎--

‎Then pulls back. Sharp. Like she touched fire.

‎"๐‘ฎ๐’๐’… ๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’ƒ๐’Š๐’…." She hisses it under her breath. "I no fit."

‎She grabs her bucket and leaves without looking at the bag again.

‎A few minutes later, the sound of dress shoes on the corridor.

‎Mr. Alade steps in — distracted, moving fast, already reaching for his desk drawer before he's fully inside the room.

‎---

‎He pulls the drawer open. Digs around. Finds whatever he came for.

‎Then turns — and sees it.

‎---

‎The bag. The brown envelope peeking out from inside it, slightly open, a corner of folded naira notes visible to anyone with eyes.

‎He goes still.

‎"Why would they leave cash here?"

‎---

‎He looks around the empty room. Nothing. No one. Just the hum of the ceiling fan and that envelope sitting there, completely unguarded.

‎He takes one step closer—

‎---

‎"๐‘†๐‘–๐‘Ÿ!"

‎A voice explodes from outside. "Proprietress dey call you! She say make you come now now!"

‎Mr. Alade looks at the bag. Looks at the door. Looks at the bag again.

‎His face gives nothing away — not guilt, not concern, not even curiosity.

‎---

‎He turns. And walks out.

‎The door stays half open behind him.

‎The bag stays on the chair.
