“Why are we the only people who feel we have to wear another texture of hair to feel beautiful?” — Maraji encourages Black women to embrace their natural hair
Popular content creator Maraji has sparked conversation online after encouraging Black women to embrace and appreciate their natural hair.
Speaking in a video, Maraji questioned why many Black women feel the need to wear hair with a different texture before they can feel beautiful.
"Why are we the only people who have to wear another texture of hair to feel beautiful? Why are we always told to hide our hair in cornrows before wearing another texture?" she asked.
She admitted that she once believed natural Black hair was somehow "not good enough," but said she has since realised that mindset was shaped by societal beauty standards.
