๐จ URGENT SEC-ALERT: Mac Users Beware! Hackers are Exploiting Screen Sharing to Mine Crypto on Your Devices
Hello guys, your resident cyber security expert here with a critical security update you need to pay attention to, especially if you or anyone you know uses an Apple Mac computer.
Hackers are currently on the loose exploiting a dangerous vulnerability in macOS, and it’s being actively used in the wild right now.
๐ฆ What is Happening?
According to recent security reports, attackers have found a way to bypass authentication in macOS. They are scanning the internet for exposed Mac computers and breaking into them without needing a password!
โ๏ธ How Does the Attack Work?
The flaw (officially tracked as CVE-2026-65400) is hidden in the macOS Screen Sharing feature—a built-in remote desktop tool that uses TCP port 5900. Because of a bug in how Apple handled credential checks, hackers can connect over the network and bypass the login screen entirely.
๐ฅ The Impact (What happens if they get in?)
Once they bypass the login, the attackers gain root (total administrator) access to your system. Currently, they are using this access to secretly install Monero cryptocurrency miners on victims' machines. This will aggressively drain your Mac's battery, slow down your system performance, and overheat your device. Worse still, with root access, they can access your personal files, change security settings, and deploy additional malware.
๐ก๏ธ How to Protect Yourself (Do this NOW)
Don't wait until your Mac becomes a slow, overheating crypto-mining zombie. Take these steps immediately:
Update Your macOS: Apple has already released patches. Go to System Settings > General > Software Update. Ensure you are updated to at least:
macOS Tahoe 26.6.1
macOS Sequoia 15.7.9
macOS Sonoma 14.8.9
Disable Screen Sharing: If you cannot update your system immediately, or if you don't even use this feature, turn it off!
Go to System Settings → General → Sharing → Screen Sharing and toggle it OFF.
Stay vigilant and protect your digital space. Share this with any Mac users you know so they don't fall victim.
Stay safe online, guys! ๐๐ป
