Part 3: The Weaver of Wishing Threads
Their relationship deepened steadily over the following months, Cedric's visits becoming a cherished, regular part of Sable's routine rather than simple, occasional gratitude. She found herself teaching him small elements of her craft, watching him learn patiently, genuine curiosity replacing his earlier grief with renewed purpose.
"I've been thinking," Cedric said one evening, carefully practicing a simple stitch beneath her watchful guidance, "about how much you've helped me heal these past months. Not simply through your remarkable magic, but through your genuine patience and understanding."
"I've enjoyed teaching you," Sable said warmly, watching his careful, improving technique. "You have a natural gift for this, actually, beyond simple grief-driven determination."
"Perhaps," Cedric said, glancing up with growing affection, "that's because I've found genuine purpose again, alongside genuine happiness, both thanks considerably to you."
Sable felt warmth spreading through her chest, months of careful, guarded solitude finally, completely giving way to genuine, chosen connection. "I feel exactly the same, Cedric. I confess, I never anticipated finding such meaningful companionship through simply repairing a grieving stranger's glove."
"Neither did I," Cedric admitted, smiling warmly. "Though I'm profoundly grateful the universe, or perhaps simply my late wife's final wish, guided me toward your door that particular evening."
They continued working together through the following weeks, Cedric gradually mastering enough of the craft to properly assist Sable with her growing list of customers, their partnership deepening into something considerably richer than either had initially anticipated.
"I have something to ask you," Cedric said one evening, several months into their blossoming relationship, setting aside his current project with visible nervousness. "Something I've been considering carefully these past several weeks."
Sable studied him curiously, noting his uncharacteristic hesitation. "What is it?"
"I love you," Cedric said simply, sincerely. "Genuinely, completely, without reservation. I understand if this feels sudden, given everything we've both experienced these past several months. But I find myself unable to properly continue without expressing exactly how significant you've become to me."
Sable felt tears gathering, overwhelming joy and complete certainty settling into her chest. "I love you too, Cedric. I've felt this way for weeks now, honestly, though I've been hesitant to properly voice it myself."
Cedric reached for her hands, warmth and genuine affection evident in his gentle touch. "Then let's stop being hesitant, Sable. Let's choose this properly, deliberately, exactly as we both genuinely want."
