"Though given your father's own admission, Ms. Ashby, we'll need to carefully determine whether this constitutes accidental ***** or something considerably more serious."

Wilhelmina nodded, still visibly shaken. "I just want to properly understand what actually happened to my mother, Detective. Twenty years believing she simply abandoned us I need to know the complete truth now, whatever it reveals."

The excavation began the following morning, forensic teams working carefully through the marked garden section. By afternoon, they'd recovered remains consistent with Cornelius's confession, alongside physical evidence that would require careful analysis to properly determine the exact circumstances of *****.

"The medical examiner's preliminary assessment suggests trauma consistent with a fall," Rosalind explained to Wilhelmina several days later. "Combined with your father's written confession, this strongly supports his account of an accidental ***** during their argument, rather than deliberate violence."

"So he didn't murder her," Wilhelmina said, complicated relief evident beneath lingering grief. "He simply... hid what happened, out of fear."

"That appears to be accurate," Rosalind confirmed. "Though concealing a ***** and providing false information for two decades carries its own serious legal implications, even setting aside the original, apparently accidental nature of her *****."

"He's already deceased," Wilhelmina said quietly. "I suppose there's no longer any formal charges to properly pursue."

"Unfortunately, no," Rosalind said gently. "Though I understand this must provide some measure of difficult, complicated closure regardless."

Desmond, having remained involved throughout the investigation given his unusual role in the case's origins, found himself increasingly concerned for Wilhelmina's emotional wellbeing as she processed this devastating, decades-delayed revelation.

"How are you managing through all of this?" he asked gently, finding her sitting alone in the estate's garden several days after her mother's proper identification.

"Honestly, I don't entirely know," Wilhelmina admitted. "Twenty years of believing my mother simply abandoned me, only to discover she actually died tragically, and my father spent decades lying about it it's rather overwhelming to properly process."

"I'm sorry you're carrying this burden," Desmond said sincerely. "Though for what it's worth, I believe your mother would be genuinely grateful you finally have the truth, however painful."

Wilhelmina studied him with quiet, genuine appreciation. "Thank you for saying that. And for properly opening that safe, despite how unusual my father's request initially seemed."
