Congolese cyclist dies during 17-country journey across Africa to promote peaceCongolese cyclist Miguel Masaisai has died while on a 17-country journey across Africa to promote peace.The 23-year-old from Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, began his “Pedals for Peace” journey on May 1, with plans to cycle about 14,000km from Goma to Rabat, Morocco.Masaisai had already travelled more than 6,500km and reached Kinshasa before continuing into Congo-Brazzaville.On September 18, his bicycle developed a problem, prompting him to take a taxi to have it repaired. The vehicle later crashed into a truck near Ouesso, close to the Congo-Cameroon border.Masaisai, the taxi driver and two other passengers died in the crash.Before embarking on his final journey, Masaisai had also cycled from Goma to Cape Town, South Africa, in 2025.
