Nigerian ride-hailing driver laments over making N60k from N80k fuel

A ride-hailing driver in Nigeria has raised concerns over the rising cost of operating expenses and what he described as low fares on ride-hailing platforms Bolt and inDrive.

The driver, reportedly said he spent โ‚ฆ80,000 on fuel and worked throughout the night, driving for both platforms, but earned only โ‚ฆ60,000.

According to his account, his earnings failed to cover his fuel expenses, leaving him with nothing to take home to support his family.

“I bought fuel worth โ‚ฆ80,000 and worked all night yesterday as a Bolt and inDrive driver. All I made was โ‚ฆ60,000, leaving me with nothing to take home to feed my family,” he said.

The driver added that he has a wife and four children to provide for, including paying school fees, buying food and maintaining his vehicle.

“I have four children and a wife to take care of. I pay their school fees, provide food for them, and still have to service my car,” he stated.

His complaint has drawn attention to the financial pressures facing ride-hailing drivers, who must contend with fuel costs, vehicle maintenance and other operating expenses while earning through app-based services.
