DJ Chicken regains his freedom
Controversial Nigerian content creator and TikTok personality, Ademola Abiodun, popularly known as DJ Chicken, has regained his freedom from detention after fulfilling the bail conditions imposed by a Lagos Magistrate Court.
His release was confirmed on Tuesday by his lawyer, Rotimi Stephen, via his Instagram Story. He shared a video appealing to DJ Chicken not to make any comment about the case since its in court.
Human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, also announced the release in a post on X, saying DJ Chicken had reunited with his family, friends and loved ones.
DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre last Friday after he was arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting in the Ogba area of Lagos State.
He was charged over an alleged threat to k!ll Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu. He had shared a video in which he said President Tinubu must not seek re-election otherwis he his son, Seyi, will be k!lled. He retracted his statement after public criticism.
He was later arrested for the comment he made. He was arraigned before the court on a three-count charge bordering on alleged violations of the Cybercrimes Act, breach of peace and making threats to ****.
When the charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty.
The court granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant, while the other must be a community leader with landed property in Lagos State. The court also ordered that both sureties must provide three years’ tax clearance certificates, utility bills, National Identification Number details and Lagos State Residents Registration Agency registration.
In addition, one of the sureties was ordered to be a blood relative of the defendant.
The court adjourned the case until August 3, 2026, while ordering that the defendant remain in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.
