The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old security guard, Bright Bassey Elijah, attached to a nursery and primary school in Calabar, following an allegation of sexu@l ass@ult involving a five-year-old pupil of the school.

The incident was reported to the Police on September 28 by the proprietress of the school in Calabar. According to the report, the suspect was allegedly caught taking the five-year-old pupil to an uncompleted building within the vicinity of the school, where the alleged assault occurred.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, Eitokpa Akata, said the suspect is currently in Police custody.

He said preliminary investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Akata said the Command is treating the matter with the seriousness it deserves, particularly given the age of the alleged victim. He mentioned that appropriate investigative and child-protection procedures will be followed in accordance with the law.

The police imagemaker urged parents, guardians, school authorities and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspected abuse or exploitation of children to the Police.

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has recalled his teenage years, saying he became involved in spiritual activities and began “casting out demons” when he was about 17 years old.

Okpebholo made the remarks during a church service at The Votage Church, where he spoke about his youth, spiritual experiences and the challenges of insecurity and cultism.

Addressing young worshippers, the governor said seeing them in church reminded him of his own experiences as a teenager.

“When I see young ones standing in the presence of God, I remember at 17, 18, I had also started casting out demons,” Okpebholo said.

He said his experiences growing up had given him a personal understanding of some of the challenges confronting young people, particularly insecurity and cult-related activities.

“Fighting insecurity, especially cultism, is not a new thing to me. It is something that has been happening,” he added.

The governor also spoke about the influence of the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa on his spiritual background.

A 20-year-old driver, Olumide Olusola, has allegedly k!lled a police Sergeant, Johnson Okediji, during a stop-and-search duty along Olugbede Street, Egbeda, Lagos.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed that the sad incident occurred on Saturday, 26th September 2026.

While briefing journalists about the activities of the Command in the month of September, CP Fatai said police officers had signalled a Lexus ES 350,with number plate FKJ 223 KX, driven by Olumide Olusola,.to stop.

He explained that the driver initially stopped but suddenly sped off as Sergeant Okediji approached the driver’s side.

The police boss added that the suspect knocked down Sergeant Okediji and dragged him underneath the vehicle for several metres despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to stop him.

He said the driver was eventually chased and arrested. However in the process,the officer sustained multiple fractures and serious injuries to the head.

CP Fatai said he was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to LASUTH, where he was unfortunately pronounced de@d on arrival.

“His remains have been deposited at Mainland Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the vehicle has been recovered to the station.”

In a brief interview with journalists during his parade, the driver said the brake of the vehicle failed and all attempts to stop it also failed.

“I did not k!ll the policeman intentionally, it was due the vehicle’s brake failure,” he said

Twenty-eight human skulls and other human bones have been recovered from forests in the Isuochi and Nneato communities of Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement following a security operation conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Chinaka said the operation involved the Violent Crime Response Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Cultism Unit, Intelligence Response Unit, Rapid Response Squad and Isuochi Police Headquarters.

She mentioned that the operatives conducted intelligence-led raids on suspected criminal camps in forests around Umuaku, Isuochi, and another camp at Nneato, also in Isuochi. She said upon arrival of the Command tactical operatives at the camps, the suspects ran. The criminal camps were subsequently scattered,” Chinaka said.

Chinaka said the remains were discovered while the operatives searched the suspected kidnappers’ camps.

“Total of twenty-eight (28) human skulls and bones, which we suspect are kidnap victims, were recovered,” she said

The police image maker said some of the remains were decomposed.

She added that the command suspected the remains belonged to people who had been k!dnapped and taken into the forest, but said investigations were ongoing.

Chinaka added that no arrest has been made in connection with the discovery as the suspects reportedly fled before the arrival of the police.

At least 27 people have been k!lled in two separate mass shootings in South Africa.

Seventeen people were k!lled at a tavern in Wedela township, southwest of Johannesburg, on Saturday night, September 26, while another 10 people were k!lled at an entertainment venue in Lwandle, near Cape Town, in the early hours of Sunday, September 27.

In the Wedela attack, police said the gunmen arrived at about 9:30pm and opened fire on people gathered outside the tavern before entering the premises and continuing to shoot at patrons.

A video from the scene shows people singing and dancing when gunshots ring out, sending them scampering to safety.

Emergency medical services pronounced 13 men and four women de@d at the scene, while 15 other victims sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to medical facilities.

South African police said the suspects were reportedly armed with AK-47 rifles and pistols. They allegedly searched some of the patrons and took their mobile phones before fleeing in two unidentified vehicles.

Two other vehicles were also set alight during the attack, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Sunday, while the motive for the shooting remained unknown.

Detectives and specialised police units have been deployed to identify and apprehend the suspects.

The second shooting occurred at about 1:46am on Sunday at an entertainment venue in Lwandle, near Cape Town.

Police said gunmen entered the venue, which also sells braaied meat, and opened fire on patrons.

Five people were k!lled at the scene, while another five di£d after being taken to medical facilities. Eleven others were wounded and remained under medical care.

Police said investigations into murd£r and attempted murd£r were underway, with the identities of the victims to be released after their next of kin have been notified.

The Jigawa State Hisbah Board has arrested eight persons over alleged homos3xual acts in Kazaure Local Government Area of the state.

The Public Relations Officer of the Board, Dauda Hadejia, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, September 26, 2026 said the suspects were arrested following a complaint lodged by a 22-year-old man.

According to Hadejia, the complainant alleged that nine individuals had engaged in homos3xual acts with him on different occasions.

The PRO said the complainant also claimed that he later contracted HIV, which he attributed to the alleged acts.

Hadejia said the complainant therefore appealed to the Hisbah authorities to seek justice over what he described as deception and actions that negatively affected his life.

He explained that following the complaint, Hisbah operatives launched an investigation and began searching for the nine individuals mentioned by the complainant.

“Our men swung into action after receiving the complaint and so far eight suspects have been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspect,” Hadejia said.

He added that during preliminary investigations, the eight arrested suspects reportedly admitted to having engaged in the act with the complainant

He noted that the Hisbah Corps had compiled relevant information and evidence for presentation before the court.

Hadejia quoted the Deputy Commander-General of the Jigawa State Hisbah Board, Dr Hussain Baban, as advising parents to be more vigilant about their children’s upbringing.

“Dr. Baban urged parents to pay greater attention to the upbringing of their children and monitor the people they associate with,” Hadejia said.

He also said the DCG called on members of the public to fear God and remain mindful of the consequences of their actions.

The PRO added that the investigation was still ongoing and the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

According to Hadejia, the DCG expressed appreciation to the Jigawa State Government for its support and cooperation with the Hisbah Board in carrying out its responsibilities.

The media aide to the Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, Daniel Ezeigwe, has disputed former governor Peter Obi’s claim that he and his wife are “godparents” to the children of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

While speaking at the Nigerian Guild of Editors Conference in Enugu State on Friday, September 25, Obi said he and his wife were “godparents” to Soludo’s children and that despite their political differences, he bears no grudges against Soludo.

However, in a statement issued today, the media aide to the Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, Daniel Ezeigwe, said there is no truth in Obi’s claim.

“The attention of the First Lady of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo, has been drawn to a viral video in which the former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, claimed that ‘he and his wife are godparents to Soludo’s children’.

Following the widespread circulation of the video, we have received several calls and enquiries seeking clarification on the claim.

We hereby state clearly that the claim, as presented, is false. For the avoidance of doubt: Mr Peter Obi is not a godfather to any of the children of Professor Chukwuma and Dr Nonye Soludo.

The facts concerning the godparent relationship between the two families are as follows: Dr Nonye Soludo, First Lady of Anambra State, is the confirmation ‘godmother’ to Peter Obi’s daughter.

Mrs Margaret Obi, wife of Mr Peter Obi, is the baptismal godmother to one of Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s daughters.

Neither Mr Obi nor Professor Soludo has served as a godparent to the other’s children. It is possible that Mr Peter Obi simply misspoke in the course of making his remarks. However, given the widespread circulation of the video and the enquiries it has generated, it is important that the record be set straight. The relationship between the two families is cordial and there is no need to misrepresent it in any manner.’’

A 27-year-old man, Muhammad Garba Ladan, has been arrested by men of the Bauchi state police command over the alleged strangulation of his four-month-old daughter, Fatimah Muhammad, in Zirami, Azare, Bauchi State.

The command said the incident was reported at about 10pm on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the Azare Divisional Police Headquarters.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the infant’s 20-year-old mother brought her lifeless body to the police station after allegedly discovering her dead at home.

The bereaved mother told the police that she had left the baby sleeping at home while she went to a neighbour’s house for hairdressing.

She said that shortly after returning home, she discovered that the baby was no longer breathing and allegedly saw her husband, Garba Ladan, suspiciously coming out of the room.

The mother further alleged that her husband had previously made several unsuccessful attempts to k!ll the child.

According to the police, she linked the alleged attempts to the circumstances surrounding the pregnancy, which she said occurred before she and Garba Ladan subsequently got legally married. Following the report, detectives attached to the Azare Division rushed the infant to the General Hospital, where a medical doctor on duty confirmed her *****.

The doctor reportedly attributed the cause of de@th to strangulation.

The police subsequently arrested Garba Ladan, who is currently undergoing preliminary investigation.

The command said the infant’s remains were later released to her relatives for burial.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) today arraigned Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, and two other accomplices, Boniface Freeman Ochoche Sule and Ikechukwu Ekugo Patriarch, before Hon. Justice Ayokunle Olayinka Faji of the Federal High Court, Lagos, on a 22-count charge bordering on cocaine trafficking, illegal export of narcotics, and money laundering.

The defendants, who were accused of conspiring between 28th July and 1st August 2026 to export 184.5 kilograms of cocaine concealed in five consignments through a Lagos-based courier logistics firm to London, United Kingdom, pleaded not guilty to all counts when the charges were read to them.

A statement from Femi Babafemi, NDLEA spokesperson, says count one of the charge sheet, marked FHC/LAG/CR/755/2026, accuses Afolabi, alongside Boniface and Ikechukwu, of conspiring with Atandare Oladipupo Oluwarotimi and Latifat Yusuf, already arrested in London in connection with the same case, to export the narcotic drug using consignments bearing Airway Bill Numbers 2079998314, 8224082370, 2079973571, 7181131742 and 2211893902, under the shipper’s name Yemi Ejide.

Other counts detail how Boniface procured Ikechukwu to facilitate the export while Afolabi is accused of procuring a staff member of BOT Express Logistics on Lagos Island to process the illicit consignment, and of unlawfully possessing the cocaine ahead of export.

After the not-guilty plea was entered and their bail application argued, the NDLEA prosecutor Abu Ibrahim who opposed the bail application, prayed the court to remand the defendants in a correctional facility pending trial, citing the gravity of the offences. Justice Faji thereafter ordered that the defendants be remanded in the Agency’s facility, and adjourned the matter till 4th October 2026 for ruling on the application.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested its officer who appeared in the viral video making careless, inappropriate and uncultured remarks about Peter Obi and Igbos while travelling on public transport has been identified as INSP. Osumah Frank.

Frank was filmed saying Obi or any Igbo person can never become President of Nigeria.

In a statement released today September 25, the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola said the command has commenced appropriate disciplinary action against the officer in line with established regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

Abimbola stated that the statements made by the officer were made in his personal capacity and do not represent the position, views or official disposition of the Lagos State Police Command or the Nigeria Police Force.

She mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has reiterated the position of the command that all its personnel are expected to maintain professionalism, civility, discipline and respect for members of the public at all times. He further reaffirmed that wearing the Police uniform comes with a responsibility to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Force, and that the Command will not condone any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute or undermining public confidence in the Police.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC), Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he left Anambra State with $123 million in debt, insisting that he handed over the state in a strong financial position with more than $150 million in funds.

Recall that the Anambra State government has, in recent times insisted Obi left the state with huge financial debt that they are still clearing. Obi denied the claim and dared them to back it with evidence, and if true, he will quit his presidential campaign. The state government has rolled out several statements with figures claiming he left the state with $123 million debt.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Arise News on Thursday night, September 24, the former Anambra State governor dismissed the allegation, arguing the allegation was “very wrong public accounting.”

“Assuming—let me even assume that Anambra State was right, even though it’s false, I did not leave $123 million—let me assume the worst-case scenario: that there was $123.7 million owed as of the time I left. I left over $150 million that was earning about $10 million annually. If they had just kept that money I left and used the income to pay the loan, they would have finished paying it now, with the $150 million capital still remaining and still giving Anambra State $10 million annually.

How it is now bundled that as of the time I left office, I left $123-something million is very wrong public accounting,” he said.

He further stated that during his time as governor, he did not approach any financial institution to borrow money or issue bonds on behalf of Anambra State, adding that his administration did not owe salaries, gratuities, pensions or verified and certified contractors.

He stated that he has no ill feelings towards Governor Soludo who he described as his brother.

The Enugu state police command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse of a concrete water reservoir that claimed the lives of five members of the same family at Umuike-Aja Village, Nenwenta Community, Awgu Local Government Area, in the early hours of September 18.

The Police on the said day received information that the reservoir, attached to an uncompleted building, had collapsed onto the adjoining house of a neighbour, identified as Raphael Onwu (male). Onwu, his wife, mother and two children d!ed in the incident.

Police operatives from Awgu Division promptly mobilized to the scene and, with support from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and community members, rescued a 9-year-old male child, who was taken to the hospital and is receiving treatment. The five deceased family members were recovered and taken to the hospital, where they were confirmed de@d before their remains were deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

Confirming the incident to newsmen, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said the owner of the building on which the reservoir was constructed, one Nkwo Onyedikachi Geoffrey, has been arrested in connection with the tragic incident.
