British comedian and actor Russell Brand found guilty of three charges following court trial
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been found guilty of three sexual offences following a weeks-long trial at Southwark Crown Court.
The jury found him guilty of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault relating to allegations made by four women over incidents said to have occurred between 2004 and 2009.
He was cleared of two other rape charges, one count of attempted indecent assault and another sexual assault charge.
Following the verdict, Judge Mr Justice Bennathan said Brand should expect a significant custodial sentence. He was remanded in custody ahead of his sentencing, which is scheduled for Monday.
Brand showed no visible reaction as the verdicts were delivered, while his wife, Laura Brand, was seen leaving the court.
Meanwhile, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that Brand remains under investigation over separate allegations made by two other women. Files relating to those allegations have been submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, and inquiries are ongoing.
