Nigerian writer and commentator Solomon Buchi has criticised South African singer Tyla over her planned performance in Nigeria, calling on Nigerians to boycott the show.

Buchi argued that Tyla remained silent during xenophobic attacks against Nigerians and other immigrants in South Africa, but is now planning to perform for Nigerian fans.

According to him, Nigerians should use the planned concert as an opportunity to make a statement against xenophobia rather than welcome the singer “with open arms.”

“Tyler must not have that show,” Buchi said, arguing that Nigerians should support local artistes instead.

He also suggested that Nigerians who love Tyla’s music could travel to South Africa to attend her shows, while urging those who attend her Nigerian concert to protest peacefully against xenophobia.

“It’s not about Tyla. I have no beef with her, but it’s about coming together as a people and saying, no, we have a voice and that voice matters,” he said.

Speed Darlington has weighed in on reports that streamer Carter Efe was allegedly denied a US visa, saying he does not believe it is a major issue.

In a video, the rapper argued that Carter Efe is a streamer and not a music artist, adding that being denied a visa should not be considered a big deal in his case.

He went on to compare the situation to that of an Ethiopian referee who reportedly missed the World Cup after being denied a visa, insisting that such a case had far greater consequences.

Businessman and younger brother to former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has disagreed with First Lady, Remi Tinubu, who, on Saturday, July 11, called on Nigerian artistes, specifically Davido, Asake and Burna Boy, to help poor Nigerians.

While speaking at an event in Kogi state , Mrs Tinubu said the burden of helping Nigerians is too much for the government, and so good-spirited Nigerians like the sibgers should set up NGOs to help poor Nigerians. According to her, buying cars like Maybach and Rolls-Royce is good, but helping the poor is better.

‘’I want to appeal to our young ones in the entertainment industry. I’ve mentioned it before, and I will use Akon, a music icon who does a lot of great charity work.

The Burna Boys of this world, Asake, all of them, Davido. We want to see you with one foundation or the other, helping the poor with your money.

Good cars are good; a Maybach is good. Rolls-Royce is good, but still you can still help. The burden on the government is huge.

In a video posted on X today, Fayose criticised the First Lady for asking state governors to buy brand-new cars for the All Progressives Congress, APC, women leaders in their states.

According to him, that money could have been used to help the poor Nigerian people too.

“I saw a video of Remi Tinubu advising Davido, Burna Boy and Asake to use their music money for charity. I disagree with you ma. You’re the one who asked state governors to buy brand-new cars for APC women leaders in their states. That money could have been used to help people too.”

Speaking on CapitalXtra, the singer said

“The girl who was meant to be the lead was in a pageant. We were about to shoot when her manager called to say the pageant organizers had reminded them she was under contract, so we couldn’t use her. We ended up using her makeup artist and when the music video blew up, the two of them fell out”

He later left a comment on IG saying the two friends never fell out.

Afrobeat singer, Made Kuti, has dismissed the misconception that all members of the Kuti family use narcotics.

Speaking with TheCable on the sidelines of the United States mission’s 250th Independence Day celebration in Lagos, the singer said many people wrongly assume he and his relatives use drugs.

“A lot of people think I smoke, but I don’t, and even my dad has quit. So, there is a big misconception that the family are all into narcotics, but most of us are not,” he said.

When asked to describe himself in three words, Made chose “hardworking, loyal and passionate,” adding with a joke that “loyal” fits because “I’m a married man”.

When asked which Nigerian artiste he currently listens to, Made named his grandfather.

One artiste did reach out to me to say all her gigs were cancelled on the continent. This is an income lost by a South African.”
